IELTS to CELPIP Converter

Turn your IELTS band scores into CLB and CELPIP levels for Canadian immigration.

Uses the official IRCC table of minimum IELTS General Training scores for each Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB). A CELPIP level equals the CLB level. For Express Entry, IRCC accepts IELTS General Training only, not Academic. Always check the current IRCC rules.

FAQ

What is the difference between CLB and CELPIP?

CLB (Canadian Language Benchmark) is the scale Canada uses to measure English ability. CELPIP is a test, and its levels line up directly with CLB levels, so CELPIP 9 is CLB 9. IELTS scores are converted to CLB using an official table.

Does Canada accept IELTS Academic for immigration?

For Express Entry and most immigration programmes, IRCC accepts IELTS General Training only, not IELTS Academic. Check the current IRCC requirements before booking your test.

What CLB level do I need for Express Entry?

It depends on the programme and your job category. For example, the Federal Skilled Worker Program needs at least CLB 7, and other programmes have different minimums. A higher CLB gives more points in the ranking system, so it is worth aiming above the minimum.

Is each skill converted separately?

Yes. Immigration programmes look at your CLB level in each of the four skills, so this tool converts each band on its own instead of using your overall band.

Is CELPIP easier than IELTS?

The tests are very different. CELPIP is fully computer-based and uses everyday Canadian situations, while IELTS has a face-to-face speaking test. Many students try practice tests for both and choose the one where they score better.
